Adam Deadmarsh steps down as assistant coach due to concussions
http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2012...reasons/10790/"I?m sad to report this: Adam Deadmarsh had to step down from the Avalanche as an assistant coach because of concussion problems. At first, I wrote a blog saying Deadmarsh quit for his listed personal reasons, and was going to leave it at that. But in a conversation with Deadmarsh?s wife, Christa, just now, I learned that it was because of recurring concussion problems as to why Deadmarsh had to step down"

Concussions are serious stuff. Let's hope he can get help for this given what we've seen from recent NFL players with concussions.

That's awful. Retiring as a player is one thing, but this looks like its going to sidetrack his entire livelihood.

He is only 37, and hasn't played a game in 9 years. If this report is true, I hope he gets all the help he can get, this is a serious issue.

Wow that totally sucks, it doesn't seem like a job you would have to let go due to concussions so his symptoms must be constant. Just really sucks to think about.

I always admired the way Deadmarsh played the game. His playing career ended far too soon. This is terrible news. I just hope he gets effective treatment and can resume his coaching career the sooner the better.

Is this Shanahan's way of trying to reach out to the public? I don't want to sound like Rechii here but this is odd timing for this.

Don't care about being 'that guy', but if the media is told it's 'personal reasons' why would you go public with it?

Often organizations don't feel comfortable divulging personal reasons, and leave it up to the people involved to do it themselves. Sounds like Deadmarsh's wife agreed to go public with it.

I have always wondered what kind of career he would have had without the concussions. Sucks to see it is still affecting him.

I can only imagine what Christa is going through, in terms of "bad days" with these concussions. I just wonder now if Adam Deadmarsh ever recovered fully from what forced him to stop playing, even though that was nearly a decade ago. Quote:

The details were added by Christa, and I would not be surprised if it was for awareness.

An arena with all of the music, crowd, and flashing lights is probably one of the worst places someone with pcs could be. I didn't even realize he was coaching the Avs. Hopefully he can give it another try at some point.

I didn't even know PCS could last as long as it has for Adam Deadmarsh. If it hasn't subsided by now he must have substantial brain injuries, I can't imagine what the last decade of his life has been like. Just the photos of him now being substantially overweight indicate how sedentary he has been forced to be all these years. It must really be hell for him and his family...

I imagine flying around with the team would wear him down too. That really sucks. He was a good player, he should just retiring from playing. I hope with the right treatment he can recover.

I never realized that was him until I google imaged his name. Having dealt with PCS myself, obviously to a much lesser degree, I can't even begin to imagine what he is going through.
