Ladies Professional Golf Association legends Nancy Lopez, JoAnne Carner, Patty Sheehan, Pat Bradley and Amy Alcott will compete against each other in a benefit to fight breast cancer at 9 a.m. this Sunday at Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore.

All proceeds from the Legends Swing for the Cure Golf Tournament will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Puget Sound organization. Seventy-five percent of the net funds raised will help provide mammograms, treatment support and education for local women. Twenty-five percent of the net funds will go directly to global research to find a cure for breast cancer.

Tickets are $20 each at www.thelegendstour.com.

No onsite parking; free shuttles will be provided at Inglemoor High and Arrowhead Elementary.

Ingredients for 4 servings:

300 grams spaghetti
300 grams mixed vegetables (I used carrots, broccoli, green beans , green peas and cauliflower)
500 mls semi skimmed milk
100 mls freshly squeezed orange juice
100 mls vegetable bouillon
1 tablespoon olive oil
30 grams fine corn flour
Salt and pepper to taste
Oregano and mint leaves to garnish

?Method:

?1. In one saucepan, take plenty of water, add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon olive oil to it and cook the mixed vegetables and pasta. (I cook them together but you can cook them separately too if you like)

2. In a second saucepan, mix the cold milk, orange juice, vegetable bouillon.

3. Put this to boil and keep stirring it all the time to ensure that the milk doesn?t separate.

4. Once the milk boils, add the corn flour and keep stirring until the sauce thickens.

5. Drain the vegetables and paste.

6. Add the white sauce to the vegetables and pasta and mix.

7. Add the remaining olive oil, salt and pepper and oregano and serve immediately.

CARLISLE ? Hundreds of spectators froze Saturday when a motorcyclist raced down a ramp and went airborne, then spun 360 degrees in midair and landed easily on another ramp.

After landing, the biker waved to the cheering crowd at the 10th annual Carlisle Summer Bike Fest at Carlisle Fairgrounds.

Sponsored by Carlisle Events and featuring more than 20,000 bikers from a 200-mile radius, the three-day bike fest celebrated everything motorcycle. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Admission is $8.

?We get 35,000 visitors to this show,? said Michael Garland, Carlisle Events spokesman. ?We have bikes for sale, a bikers mall, wheelie rides, demo rides, music, midget wrestling, tattoos and more.?

The fest, part business, part entertainment and all fun, gives bikers a chance to show off and see motorcycles of all makes and models.

Hundreds gathered Saturday to see the daredevil Monster Energy Freestyle motocross. They watched three experienced bikers defy gravity and prove that motorcycles can fly.

The bikers catapulted over steep jumps, sailed more than 30 feet in the air and performed back flips, front flips, hand stands and other acrobatic feats while high in the air.

After the three motocross shows, bikers looked at motorcycles on display and for sale.

Tim and Tracy Keene of Middletown, who already own a 2009 Yamaha Raider cruiser, gave serious consideration to buying a Harley-Davidson touring bike

?We want a bike for longer rides,? said Tim Keene, a biker for 29 years. ?We?re going to take a test drive on a Harley.?

The longtime employee of Feesers Inc. in Swatara Twp. rides his bike to work every day for fuel efficiency and because he enjoys riding.

Rising gas prices have led to rising motorcycle sales, said Bryan Perry, owner of Appalachian Harley-Davidson in Silver Spring Twp. and a biker for 40 years. He said that bikes offer 40 to 50 miles per gallon, something few cars can equal.

?We have people trading in boats, campers and trucks that they hardly ever use for motorcycles they will use,? he said. ?Our customers range from 18-year-olds who always wanted a bike to a 75-year-old who wants to live a little. Everything looks and smells different when you?re on a bike.?

He said that women, no longer content to just ride on the back of a motorcycle, are among the buyers, now making 8 percent to 10 percent of his sales compared to just 4 percent a few years ago.

?Harley-Davidson designs and manufacturers bikes specifically for women,? Perry said. ?They are lower and lighter than other bikes and the handlebars pull back a bit.?

He said motorcycles range from $2,500 for a used one to $40,000 for a ?high end? one, with $15,000 to $20,000 as the average. Many bikes come with CD players, radios, luggage storage and more.

Perry encourages all new motorcycle owners to take a motorcycle safety program approved by the state Department of Transportation.

The quad core Cortex-A9 platform has a fifth, low power Cortex core in addition to a 12-core NVidia GPU.

The VF series features up to 1.5 Mbytes of on-chip SRAM with ECC (error correction code) support. The DDR3/LPDDR2 controller and NAND flash controller also has ECC support. ECC is important for critical applications such as automotive. It is also combined with secure boot using cryptography algorithm hardware acceleration and tamper detection support to prevent malicious or accidental changes from affecting the operation of the platform.

The VF series is not designed for the engine control unit (ECU). Freescale's multicore Qorivva line includes the three core MPC5746M (see Three Core Micro Pushes Powertrain Performance) that runs a pair of Power cores in lockstep and adds a peripheral processor to the mix.

Still, security and reliability are still important because safety related design criteria is at the top of the list for that LCD display sitting between the driver and passenger. A corrupt or improperly designed application can easily distract the driver.

The VF series chips also includ a pair of quad-SPI interfaces with double-data-rate capability. This allows execute-in-place (XIP) code using quad-SPI serial memory chips. There are two Ethernet controllers with an level 2 (L2) switch. Two USB 2.0 OTG ports have integrated, high-speed PHYs. There is a mix of CAN, UART and I²C interfaces as well.

The real-time I/O subsystem incorporates pulse-width modulation (PWM) timing system, two 12-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and a pair of 12-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs). There are multiple audio interfaces included as well.

Displays can be driven by the OpenVG graphics processing unit (GPU). The dual display controllers also have a video/camera interface.

Automotive applications are the target for the VF series but it will also be available for Freescale's Tower development platform. MQX RTOS is supported by Freescale (see Prototyping A Tower) for the Tower. The VF series also has support for a range of third party development tool and RTOS software.

Developers can easily move code from one core to another although it is clear that the Cortex-M4 will be handling audio chores. Its DSP support is great for timing related chores. The Cortex-A5 will probably handle user interface and network support. This heftier core can handle Linux. Wireless support can be handle by a range of interfaces including SPI. The USB OTG and Ethernet can provide user access to the system.

Freescale expects the Vybrid VF series to be around awhile. They will be supported by Freescale's product longevity program so chips will be available for a minimum of 10 years.

Vybrid will definitely be a factor in automotive applications but it will be interesting to see if it finds a home in other application areas.
